THE LUXURY OF LEATHER.
Natural, elegant and comfortable, genuine leather is part of the ambiance of real luxury. New high quality fine nappa premium leather in “Brandy” or “Indian Night” Jet Black, sets a high-class tone, lifted even further by the contrasting traditional piping. Perforated for seat ventilation, or solid for sheer elegance, the attraction is unmistakable.
ERGONOMIC SPORTS SEAT.
No matter how or how far you drive, seat comfort is a vital necessity. The fully orthopaedic ergonomic sports seat adjusts 8 ways with 4-way pneumatic lumbar support to suit your posture perfectly. Also, the adjustable seat extension cushion delivers relaxing leg support. At the top end perforated leather in black and beige, with heating and ventilation, fingertip electric operation and memory bring the new Opel Insignia into the highest luxury category, but the manually adjustable cloth covered version provides the same level of orthopaedic support.
The ergonomic sports seat is approved and recommended by AGR (Aktion Gesunder Rücken e.V.), a German medical association that has set orthopaedic requirements for car seats.
HVAC & HEATED LEATHER STEERING WHEEL.
Heated steering wheel? Heated or ventilated seat controls? You’ll find the controls all sensibly grouped together, right by the air conditioning and demisters. The dual-zone Electronic Climate Control features capacitive touchscreens for easy, intuitive control, adding extra convenience for driver and co-driver. That means maximized convenience also means maximized comfort, whether you want warmth for the cold mornings, or cool air for sticky summer afternoons.
ADVANCED PARK PILOT.
Using front and rear sensors the Advanced Park Pilot can detect a suitable parking space and then using visual instructions displayed on the central display guides you into it. Push-button activated, it is computer controlled and also senses obstacles. Both written and visual graphics indicate the steering angles and direction. The result is perfect parallel parking, even in confined spaces.
ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE.
The touch-operated electric parking brake on the new Opel Insignia offers both increased parking security and decreased driver effort. Also in combination with Hill Start Assist and Hill Hold, both of which prevent the car rolling backwards when stopped on a hill, it gets you moving smoothly and effortlessly for increased comfort and safety.
OPEN & START.
The keyless system of the new Opel Insignia boosts comfort in day-to-day operation and affords effective protection against theft. Open & Start recognizes the driver’s User Identification Unit (UID) via antennas in the front door handles and the bumper. It unlocks all doors if the button of any door handle is pushed. For keyless Start/Stop, the UID is recognized by antennas inside the car. There is no conventional ignition lock, the steering wheel is electronically locked and unlocked. The engine is started and switched off without the need for a key, using START/STOP button. If necessary, the driver’s door can also be opened manually using the integrated flap key in the UID.
SMART STORAGE SOLUTIONS.
The new Opel Insignia puts convenient pockets and compartments within easy reach of the driver and passengers. There are seat back map pockets, door pockets, a driver’s storage bin, cup holders front and rear, a large glove box, and a center rear armrest storage space. You want to use your computer or another electronic device? A special option is the 230 V power outlet in the floor console.
With a load volume of 500 l the new Opel Insignia offers one of the most capacious luggage compartments in class. The capacity is certainly enough for more than a holiday weekend; also it can take care of all business and leisure needs. The folded 60:40 rear seat back allows a maximum load volume of 1,015 l, when folding the headrests can stay in place.
The trunk lid of the new Opel Insignia can be opened by remote control or the touchpad, which is integrated in the Opel logo. It swings automatically to the full-open position. A side compartment in the trunk keeps smaller items easily at hand, whilst another compartment under the load floor conceals items that are needed only occasionally.
ADAPTIVE FORWARD LIGHTING (AFL+).
The Insignia is available with Adaptive Forward Lighting – one of the most advanced headlight systems in the mid segment.
The movable elements in the sleek bi-xenon headlights automatically adjust themselves to different conditions, ensuring safer and more relaxed driving. Various adaptive light functions make the best of every situation, improving road illumination by up to 90% versus fixed headlamps – without dazzling other drivers.
AFL+ greatly enhances visibility through curves and sharp bends, making night driving significantly safer. And much more relaxing.
OPEL EYE: TRAFFIC SIGN ASSISTANT, LANE DEPARTURE WARNING AND FOLLOWING DISTANCE INDICATION/FORWARD COLLISION ALERT.
The Opel Eye in Opel Insignia is a camera system with four functions: It reads and remembers speed limit, connected auxiliary symbols, “no overtaking” signs, city limits etc. and displays them. The system also gives the driver advanced warning of unintentional departure from traffic lanes, constantly indicates the distance to the vehicle ahead and alerts the driver if a collision is imminent.
Opel Insignia’s Traffic Sign Assistant (TSA) system keeps the driver informed in real time about traffic restrictions – and lets him know if they are still valid. The camera recognizes speed limits or “no-overtaking” signs, immediately displays them, and also signals the end of the restrictions.
The camera also observes the lane marking lines for the Lane Departure Warning (LDW), which is instantly activated when the car crosses a line without signaling. An audible warning and a sign in the instrument warn the driver immediately.
Following Distance Indication (FDI) constantly shows the distance to the leading vehicle in the instrument panel, helping to avoid tailgating tickets. Forward Collision Alert (FCA) is active when the car is moving faster than 40 km/h and gives visual and audible warning when a collision is likely.
ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL (ACC).
A radar sensor maintains your cruise speed and the chosen gap to the car in front using throttle and brakes. The following distance to the preceding vehicle can be adjusted via steering wheel control. A green vehicle ahead telltale illuminates if the radar sensor detects a preceding in-path vehicle. If you approach the preceding car too fast, the system triggers visual and audible warnings and applies the brakes, when it is fitted with automatic transmission bringing the car to a total stop if necessary. That means control over full speed range.
SIDE BLIND ZONE ALERT (SBZA).
You can’t have eyes everywhere, so the Insignia has radar-based Side Blind Zone Alert (SBZA). This constantly monitors the crucial 3.5 to 5 meter “blind spot” area that you don’t see when you look in the side mirrors. When it senses danger, a LED symbol will light up in the respective outside mirror.
REAR CROSS TRAFFIC ALERT (RCTA).
If you ever need to reverse into traffic you’ll know just how useful the Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) can be. It uses radar to pick up vehicles that you cannot see when backing out at a distance of up to 20 meters. Then it shows a warning signal on the rear view camera display screen, plus an audio warning sounds from the respective side.
LANE CHANGE ALERT (LCA).
Traffic fast approaching from the rear in any situation, but especially when pulling out to overtake, can be dangerous. Radar with a range of approximately 70 meters warns you over the Lane Change Alert (LCA) of rapidly approaching vehicles in parallel lanes.
Class leading electronic chassis control belongs naturally to the Insignia. The Drive Mode Control reacts to changing conditions in real time. In extreme conditions the FlexRide system automatically sets the continuous damping control (CDC) to work with the 4-channel ABS and electronic brake force distribution, Traction Control and ESP Plus to provide the safest active safety available.
In more normal conditions there is a choice of Sport, Tour or Normal settings to match the driving character to your moods. It is also possible to input your own preferences into the settings of the Sport mode, for ultimate custom handling.
This outstanding intelligence is perfectly complemented by the chassis engineering. The optional HiPerStrut front suspension virtually eliminates torque steer during acceleration and also isolates unwanted feedback from bumps and rough surfaces. The multilink rear suspension is, in turn, perfectly suited to the FlexRide. The whole is balanced to perfection for your safety, comfort and driving enjoyment.
The excellent on-road behavior of the new Opel Insignia is further enhanced by on-demand all-wheel drive. The torque is automatically distributed not only between front and rear axles, but also between left and right rear wheels, providing maximum traction, stability, and outstanding driving dynamics. The optional Super-Sport Chassis (for Sport and Cosmo) adds Opel’s HiPerStrut front axle, which isolates the steering from the negative effects of high engine torque. It also includes high-performance Brembo brakes, and a handling-biased, lowered chassis.
Adaptive 4×4 is fully integrated with all the other dynamic control systems of the Opel Insignia. It therefore responds also more sportily when the “Sport” mode is activated.
The Insignia’s advanced 4×4 system is not only available for the high performance petrol engines 2.0 SIDI Turbo and 2.8 Turbo but also for the highly efficient 2.0 CDTI with 120 kW (163 hp) and the 2.0 BiTurbo CDTI with 143 kW (195 hp).
Fuel consumption combined 8.7-3.7 l/100km; CO2 emission combined 204-98 g/km.
According to regulation R (EC) No. 715/2007 (in the version respectively applicable).
STATE OF THE ART POWERTRAINS.
Smooth, willing power without consumption or emission penalties is the promise. The reality is sensational. For the Insignia, Opel engineers have created a range of power units that work together with the advanced technology and chassis to transport you into a new dimension of clean, lean and green motivation.
If you drive diesel, the 2.0 CDTI, ultra clean and quiet power that still delivers an invigorating 103 kW (140 hp) sets the scene for a blend of economy and performance. If you want more power there is also the 2.0 CDTI 120 kW (163 hp) or the outstanding 2.0 BiTurbo CDTI with 143 kW (195 hp). This tops a range that begins with just 81 kW (110 hp) or 88 kW (120 hp) and 96 kW (130 hp). Wherever you live, or whatever you expect, one will be perfect for you.
For some drivers the environment comes before everything else. If you share this commitment Opel Insignia now offers a real choice. The 2.0 CDTI engines with Start/Stop System of the Opel Insignia ecoFLEX deliver 103 kW (140 hp) respectively 88 kW (120 hp) with a combined consumption of only 3.7 liters and cuts CO2 emissions to just 98 g/km.
By optimizing engine calibration with combustion pressure sensing, adapting the final drive ratio, lowering chassis, fitting low rolling resistance tires, automatic grille shutter and Start/Stop System the new Opel Insignia ecoFLEX protects the environment without compromising on driving performance.
START/STOP SYSTEM AND ECOFLEX TECHNOLOGY PACK.
Almost all engines are available with an ecoFLEX Technology Pack, and with Start/Stop System in combination with manual transmission.
The Start/Stop System further optimizes fuel savings, especially in city traffic. The engine stops when the car comes to a standstill with transmission in neutral and starts instantly as soon as the clutch pedal is being activated again. The system can be activated/deactivated via a button on the instrument panel. When the system is active and the engine is stopped, the rev-counter needle goes to the labelled “AUTOSTOP” position to signal readiness for automatic start. The Start/Stop System uses an enhanced generator, starter, and a specific battery.
All Opel Insignia transmissions are 6-speed. The automatic transmissions feature ActiveSelect® for sequential shifting. The 6-speed manual transmissions are optimized for reduced friction and shift precisions. In fact the optimal architecture and precision of all of the transmissions mean that driving is more relaxed, more economical and more enjoyable.
The new Opel Insignia is not only equipped with state-of-the-art active safety systems, but also protects its occupants with exemplary passive safety technology. High tensile steels, rigidity, deformability, strategically placed crash boxes and impact load paths all work together to ensure that the new Opel Insignia offers one of the strongest safety structures on the market. Inside it the front airbags are dual powered to avoid injuries caused by too rapid inflation, and the passenger airbag can be switch deactivated. The side airbags guard against side impact and intrusion. In addition to the full-length curtain airbags, rear side airbags are also available.
This attention to detail and all-round protection has earned the Insignia the top NCAP 5-star rating.
Further Insignia passive safety features include:
- Double seat belt pretensioners on the front seats for increased protection
- Pedal Release System helping avoid foot and leg injuries
- Active headrests front to guard against whiplash and neck injuries
