Opel launches new MOKKA X in UAE
- 600,000 units sold globally since introduction in 2014
- First of Opel’s new ‘X’ vehicles
- Comfortable, connected and compact
Dubai – One of Europe’s best selling compact SUVs has landed in the UAE, bringing with it a fresh look, new tech and a new name. Already well-established as an urban warrior with over 600,000 sales globally, the Opel Mokka’s latest version is now known as the MOKKA X.
The added ‘X’ is the new global identifier for the brand’s innovative future direction for its SUV and crossover vehicles. It will also be seen in the first ever Crossland X model to be launched in 2017 as part of a product offensive by the German automaker, which will see five new models brought to the region over the next twelve months.
Aimed at drivers who are looking for a vehicle that is safe, family oriented and powerful, the new MOKKA X merges functionality, connectivity, technology and safety in an easy-to-handle package. It has been designed with purpose to be both comfortable and compact, measuring 4.28 meters from bumper to bumper.
On the inside, occupants can ride in comfort with ergonomic seats that have been independently certified by healthy back experts, AGR. The interior trim has been given a serious facelift and the dashboard architecture from Opel’s new Astra has been seamlessly integrated, for a more modern look and feel.
At the top of the list of the MOKKA X’s new connectivity features is Apple CarPlay. This phone projection technology enables iPhone users to display certain apps and functionality from their phone on the vehicle‘s infotainment display. The seamless integration between phone and vehicle allows occupants to conveniently control those apps and functions via the vehicle‘s infotainment system touchscreen or through voice commands.
From the outside, a key highlight and most obvious break from the previous model is the move to new headlight clusters that combine daytime running lamps and LED technology. Opel is a leader in this field, and the MOKKA X takes advantage of this to provide owners with a dusk to dawn safety advantage and 24-hour illumination.
The solid mechanicals of the previous model remain unchanged and continue to utilize an efficient six-speed automatic transmission and 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbocharged, efficient ECOTEC petrol engine. It produces 103 kW between 4 900 and 6 000 rpm and 200 Nm between 1 850 and 4 900 rpm.
Zero to 100 km/h is reached in 10.7 seconds with a top speed of 191 km/h.
Available in two trim levels, the MOKKA X’s space, comfort and go-anywhere nature of an SUV will help it to remain a popular choice. The MOKKA X is available in the UAE now, starting at AED71,000.
